The Barbarian Invasions

The Barbarian Invasions is written and directed by  Denys Arcand and is sorta a follow up of his previous film the Decline of the American Empire. The film titles don’t “really” have anything to do with the movies. The Barbarian Invasions is about a son trying to make his dying father last few days comfortble.

Anyways, heres a review turned poem describing the dying father. The review itself came from somebody on netflix I believe, I found this in a text file randomly. Enjoy

The Barbarian Invasions

He is intelligent but not wise,
passionate but self-absorbed,
critical of others but quite tolerant of himself.
unfaithful, absent, uninspired,
he leaves the world having accomplished little besides indulging his senses.
His view of life is passive and a “Disney World” mentality-that everything exists for our enjoyment,
that happiness is an entitlement rather than something one works to achieve,
that the proper response to wrongs is to pontificate.
And why should he be proactive?
He lives in his own world, courtesy of himself,
where all join harmoniously together to move heaven and earth to ease
the suffering of his final days.
